RACE TRACK ‘AFTER PARTIES’ Because my dad used to be a racing driver he was often invited to parties and open days at various racing circuits.  He naturally knew lots of racing people and on this particular occasion he was invited to an Open Day at Donington Park.  Tom Wheatcroft, a local entrepreneur, had bought Donington Park in the 1970s as he owned the largest collection of Grand Prix cars in the world at that time.  In 1973 he opened a museum there to house them all and called it the Donington Grand Prix Exhibition.   Donington became the favoured home of the British round of the MotoGP motorcycling championships but he was really hoping to bring F...

In it are photos of her husband King Edward VII and other royals spending time at Balmoral and Sandringham during their holidays – a rare insight into how the royal family spent their leisure time, which in those days would never have been seen before.     The Emperor of Russia's family This picture was taken on board the Emperor of Russia's yacht, 'Standart' as they sail...

...ldren’s museum which has been made in the old servants’ quarters.  The whole house is now open to the public and aimed at family-friendly activities and children can find out what life was like for children back in the ‘good old days’ by going into a mine tunnel or climbing up a chimney!  Outdoors there is a grass maze and den building in the beautiful parkland or you can just sit by the lake and listen to the birdsong.  Sounds like a lot of fun!  We visited Sudbury Hall quite a few times over the years and it really is a beautiful house. Available from Amazon.   And so, these two families seem to have been intertwined for many generations.  Prior to the marriage of Hugo and Emily Meynell Ingram, plans were apparently  being drawn up to build a magnificent property at Hoar Cross to which they would settle.   They say that the Hall was a copy of one wing of Temple Newsam and if you look at the header picture there is definitely a resemblance in the style.  At the time of their marriage they were living in Old Hall nearby with two of Hugo's sisters, a situation which caused a...
